Preventing Disease with Vaccinations

Cat and Dog Vaccinations in Oregon, OH

Everyone wants as many good years as possible with their beloved pet, and one of the best ways to ensure their health and well-being is through vaccinations. Cat and dog vaccinations protect your pet from dangerous, prevalent diseases that could be fatal. At Country Squire Animal Hospital, our veterinarian and staff develop a custom vaccination plan for every cat and dog so they only get the vaccines they need.

Cats and dogs need vaccines throughout their lives to maintain immunity. Is your pet due for vaccine boosters?

Guidelines for Dog and Cat Vaccination Schedules

Your pet will begin their vaccinations during their first year of life. Puppies and kittens begin to lose the protective antibodies from their mother’s milk soon after they’re weaned. To build up their immunity, they’ll receive a series of core vaccinations at about 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age, and then another booster at a year old. Adults will need to receive boosters throughout their lives to remain protected. Many vaccines are one-year vaccines, but we do have a 3-year vaccine for dogs, the DHPP (distemper).

Our Cat & Dog Vaccinations

Our veterinarians determine a personalized vaccination protocol for every pet. While there are some vaccinations we highly recommend for all cats and dogs, others are only given based on your pet’s unique risk factors. Factors we consider when developing a vaccine protocol include whether or not they’ll travel with you, whether they’re primarily indoors or outdoors, if they’ll go hiking with you, and other lifestyle factors.
